I will try to help. If you cannot find your ancestor on the Dawes Roll, as far as the government is concerned they do NOT exist.Most of my research is with Cherokee but think they are pretty much the same. In 1907 when the Final Dawes Roll was done, the ancestor had to be listed on the roll. Also they had to live within the designated boundaries of I.T. If they lived even 1 foot across the boundary (say Arkansas) they were not put on the rolls. The sad part is that the Dawes roll is full of mistakes but it cannot be changed or modified.
