Thomas M. Ryan, 82
Thomas Mathew Ryan, 82, of West Lafayette, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his son's residence in Monticello. He was a resident of the Lafayette area since 1961.
Born Oct. 11, 1924, in Paxton, Ill., to the late Mathew E. and Anna Laura Hofer Ryan, he had attended Illinois Weslyan University.
He married Patricia Alice Povall on May 4, 1946, in Manchester, England, and she survives. He was in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Ryan was an underwriter for State Farm Insurance until 1964, assisting in the opening of the regional office in West Lafayette. He worked at Purdue University as a storekeeper until retirement, and then worked part-time at the Wabash Center.
Thomas enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving along with his wife are two sons Michael M. Ryan (wife: Sue) of Monticello and Thomas A. Ryan of Lafayette; and two daughters Sheila Dunker (husband: Charlie) of Monticello and Barbara Carnahan (husband: Thomas) of West Lafayette.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Saturday, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 11, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Father David Douglas officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Surviving are 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded by 3 sisters.
