Stephen P. FARISH and Mary R. S. MAYES were married on 18 May 1838 in Dallas Co., Alabama. She was the daughter of Samuel MAYES and Mary REID. According to Dallas County Alabama Deed Book B, Page 217, 25 March 1842 Samuel MAYES gave his daughter Mary R. S. FARISH, wife of Stephen FARISH and negro girl named Jinney. Mary died on 29 August 1843 in Wilcox County, Alabama. Stephen married Emeline Thetus VINCENT in Dallas County on 29 January 1844. In January 1844 session of the Orphan Court of Dallas County Samuel MAYES petitioned the court to appoint him the guardian of Robert S. and Thomas D. FARISH, his grandsons. The court ordered Stephen P. FARISH to show cause why that appointment shouldn't be made. Stephen left Alabama for Conway County, Arkansas shortly after that I suspect to avoid the summons. In the 1851 will of Samuel MAYES, Robert S. FARISH, "the deceased's grandson", is the only heir mentioned. Is anyone familiar with this family?
