My ancestor appears to be the James Dobbins who is listed in the NC Treasurers and Comptrollers Papers Rev Army Accounts who recieved 560 pounds for shoeing horses, certificate number 117. I also have a copy of the Pay voucher. The voucher is dated 20 May, 1781. On the other side of the voucher written is "Presented on the 30th day of September 1791 on loan to the United States, and since rejected(?)" Part of the last word was cut off so not totally sure it was rejected.
My question, My ancestor James Dobbins evidently died around 1786. That is when his estate file folder is dated. In the May, 1794 session of the Iredell Co, NC county court his 4 children claim that the administrators did not list James Dobbins Specie Certificate or Certificates worth over 100 pounds for James service in the Revolution.
What does the date of 30 Sept, 1791 mean? James is dead by then.
