Hi,

My 5th great uncle was John Nicholas Hoffman. He was born March 21, 1749,
Berks, PA and died April 28th 1814, Dauphin Co, PA. I know he was in Captain Alibright
Deibler's company of the 4th PA militia. However, I am wondering if
he had additional service in the 10th Pa of the Continental Line,
under Capt. Hays, beginning in October 1778. The only thing that
confuses me is that if John Nicholas served first in the 4th Pa
militia, as well as the 10th Pa (Oct 1778), why did he return to 4th,
PA militia? c. -April 1781. Would this have been common? This leads me to believe that there was a totally different soldier, by the same name who served in the 10th PA Continentals.-That my uncle is not the the soldier in the Continental Line.
Please help
me in figuring out if John Nicholas served in both the 4th Pa militia
and the 10th Pa Continentals.

Thanks,

Stefan
