I you can get a contact to delve deeply into the Colonial Office / War Office records at the National Archives in Kew, there might be some notation as to your man's death. It is also possible that his family sought some compensation. If his family was dispossessed, there could be a narrative in the (US) County or State Court where he resided concerning his manner of death and reason for siezing the family assets. If they moved to Canada, there may be affidavits filed there concerning why they were entitled to a land grant - there are some wonderfully complete surviving records in Ottawa. Good hunting! |
