I have only just read that the ACORN surname in my tree may be a variant of ALCORN. Did you by any chance find a Matthew in the graves in Rotherfield?
I am stuck with Matthew Acorn who had already died by the time of the 1851 census in Wiltshire, England, leaving his widow and children, including my relative Matthew (junior). I cannot find the older Matthew's baptism and wonder if he was born elsewhere and moved to Wiltshire? He was a sailor, while his wife worked in the weaving industry.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
