Gioni could also be a derivative of "Gjoni".. which means John in Albanian, and eventually is catholic origin. The letter j and i are sometimes interchanged in the Alb alphabet bc they sound partially similar.
Kostas, I recommend you increase your scholarly reading. You are lacking a bit behind in your research.
EX: the first "written" Albanian text (in latin alphabet) is no longer considered to be from 1555.
