I really believe the David Welch I have been searching for is related to your Welch`s.

I have found the David Welch whom I believe is mine.
He was born IN Ellis TX but seems to be related to Welch`s
of Lauderdale AL.

My David Welch was b abt. 1846 give or take a year or two.
He married 1st. Susan Vinson Whitehead, 2nd Mary Risner.

WELCH, DAVID C. Pvt - Enl 18 Oct 1863 at Dardanelle, AR. Ht 5' 4", eyes gray, hair drk, complx drk, farmer, age 18, born in Ellis Co, TX. May-Jun 1865 on duty herding stock.
WELCH, LEVI J. Pvt - Enl 18 Oct 1863 at Dardanelle, AR. Ht 6' 6", eyes blue, hair drk, complx drk, farmer, age 19, born in Lauderdale Co, AL.
WELCH, PETER T. Cpl - Enl 18 Oct 1863 at Dardanelle, AR. Ht 5' 10", eyes gray, hair drk, complx drk, farmer, age 35, born in Morgan Co, IN.

David Welch,
born around 1846 in TX. He married Susan Whitehead,
dau of Sydney Whitehead in Conway CO AR. She was a widow of Thomas Vinsen. David
married 2nd Mary E Reasner/ Risner 1873 in Conway CO AR.

The John A Welch in the census above is the son of David Welch and Susan Whitehead Vinson Welch. Francis Whitehead
was listed as the grandmother. Betty Resnor must be the daughter of David Welch and Mary Resnor Welch.

James is believed to be James Monroe Welch whom later married Mary J Prince.
John Albert Welch was would have been born just after this census.
