Good Day-- First let me say-- "thanks for the reply". As to your question--I'm not sure. What is the first name of S? Jefferson Gilliland?-- There is a Samuel Gilliland that was in Madison Co. Al. in the 1820-30's that was a Methodist Preacher. Could this be the S? that is for Jefferson? This Gilliland later went into Ms. I do not have more on this Samuel Gilliland--BUT would like to , because MY Rev. John Gilliland -M- Sarah Brasier in Madison Co., Al. 1819. So maybe this Samuel would be related to my John??
My John was a Baptist Preacher, not a Methodist, but there are some similarities between the two, so maybe my John changed faiths.
But- Most of the Gillilands that has been Researched are out of the Pendleton-Greenville,South Carolina Gillilands that were descendants of the OLD (116Yrs) John Gilliland.
This is not to said your S. Jefferson Gilliland is. There is a James Alexander Gilliland that was in Cleveland Co. Tenn. from Spartanburg Co. S.C., that I think is the father to my John, but can not prove( just family lore). This could be S. Jefferson's line. Again it is just a maybe, And only is S.Jefferson can be connected to James Alexander.
Do you have any earlier data on S. Jefferson?? where his line came from & when??
AS to your Fisk family, I have no data on them. The name does "ping" a brain cell, but I have no connection to them, so have not researched. Have you tried World Connect Project at Rootsweb??
Back to the Gillilands --other than my John & Samuel-- Most of the other Gilliland lines come down from Cocke Co. Tenn. in to Jackson/Cherokee Counties Al. and from Ga. into Dekalb Co. & mid Al. counties. A lot of these groups went on into Ms. & Texas.
The Abel Gilliland that you can find in St. Claire Co. Al. & Robert Gilliland , that can be found in Dekalb/Etowah Co. are from the John Gilliland in Cocke Co., Tenn. There is another Rev. John Gilliland that -M- Rebecca McBrayer, that is form Greenville S.C. and another Robert Samuel Gilliand that came into Al.-but he is out of the James Alexander Gilliland's line, by James's son Robert Gilliland that-M- Mary Brasier/Brashear. James Alexander Gilliland was -M- to Jane Nesbitt. These two family names are used in my John's Children's names.
Hope this helps & does not confuse you,-- but it may be a starting point.
