Hi Juanita

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Hope you had a good one!

Yes it is a family name. I found where Tickeater was at horseshoe bend. War of 1812 according to the web

Now my match who I have not spoken to yet has all AI names (very few listed) and my family has none. I emailed this person politely and they may be away or may not want to answer and just tested out of curiosity which is fine too. Im not pushing the issue just trying to solve my own family dead ends. At this point have no idea if this match and my family share an indigenous ancestor or a European one. We are matching as cousins on Family Finder DNA test. This person matches more than one person in my family as cousin around the 4th to 5th cousin range.

What is interesting with this match we also both share a different match and a different ancestor with a Reno. This Reno has his family traced to Cali and descends from the Cherokee though his direct family is not enrolled. I spoke to the Reno and the only connection we can come up with between my family and his is Joseph White. Joseph White was the immediate neighbor of the patriarchs of the Martin/Smith/Sells. I have not researched the White (surname) but Joseph our neighbor is supposedly the brother of William White who was a court official in Burke County NC. The Dowells (Gen Joseph Martin's family per DNA) married into William Whites family.

You may know a little more about General J than I do. I read somewhere he connects to the Choate family. Is this correct? I found this web and if accurate on Tickeater they have "A" martin listed and the Choates and others. I do wonder if this Martin listed connects to General J

Our Martin/Smith/Shells did not live far from the Dowells (General J's family per DNA) Rumor had it, that our Martins are also General J's family but this has not been proven. we may not be General J's direct line but could be one of his brothers just like the Dowells. Being that the Cherokee have both General J's Martin line and The martin/Smith/Shells, do they come from the same male line martins or do we have 2 completely different Martin lines at some point marrying into the Cherokee nation????

Thanks!!

Jodi
