Hi,

Thank you for your informative posting. My Grandfather was Lewis Dean and was Iroquois. But, unfortunately I do not know which Nation/Nations he came from. His fathers name (on his death cert.) was Charles Dean, and mother was Ada B. Gibson. It showed his place of birth was Sheepshead Bay NY but no birth records exist for him there. His father was said to be born in NY, his mother either in NY or Pennsylvania. One clue I have is that He was born on Jan. 22, 1889. In his diary he said his father, grandfather and Great Grandfather were also born on Jan. 22. Prior to 1910 I can not find any records for my Grandfather. My understanding is his mother died when he was about 14-15 years old. He had a brother, Gary, who died by drowning as a child. From my mother, she said he grew up on a reservation in NY. In his diary he refers to "the old home town & Niagara Falls".

Any clues, suggestions, or references, to help me locate information regarding Deans & Gibsons lineage would be greatly appreciated.
TY,
Maggie
