Thank you. I have a complete, and accurate, inventory of the Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, and have visited it many times.The only Margaret Adair of record I can find was born ca. 1790, a daughter of Benjamin Adair and his wife, Nancy George. At that time, a female had to be either single or a widow, and of age, to sign a deed to sell anything. To complicate matters more, I don't understand how Margaret Adair and George McCrary could have held joint ownership in any land, and, further, why just 2/3 of a tract, implying someone else owned the other 1/3. (If land was jointly owned, one, or two in this case, owner(s) cannot sell their share at random. It had to be handled by a court of equity, unless the dissenting partner agreed to the sale and it was resurveyed to divide it.) I do find that Alexander George, to whom the 2/3 was sold, later sold part of it. He would have been the uncle of Margaret George, if it was Benjamin Adair's daughter, Margaret, who was the one selling. I obtained the original deed and it is of no help, no trail of ownership mentioned, or any connection between George McCrary and Margaret Adair. Regards, Bob Stevens Darlington, S.C.
