It would be interesting what questions Lena Harnage Adair asked in her letter to the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson. Lena was born November 01, 1869, in east Texas, where some of the Cherokee people fled during the Civil War. She was the daughter of John Harnage and Emily Mayfield, and she married Thomas James Adair January 01, 1893, after they returned to the Cherokee Nation in the Indian Territory. Thomas James Adair was the son of John Lynch Adair, and grandson of Thomas Benjamin Adair, a son of John Adair and Jennie Kilgore. Lena graduated from the Alexander Institute, Kilgore, Texas. She and Thomas James are buried in the Tahlequah City Cemetery, Tahlequah, OK, formerly a Cherokee Nation cemetery, where a number of Cherokee leaders are buried. Lena and Thomas James Adair had a daughter, Emily, b. December 09, 1893, who married George Fite Benge.
