The only thing I found in Colonial Soldiers is that a Richard Crashar/Crashaw/Croshaw Graves had written two letters to Col. George Washington, one on 12/8/1771, in which he mentions the death of Joseph Valentine, another on 12/24/1771, in which he again mentions Mr. Valentine. However, my D. A. R. Patriot Index has:
Graves, Richard Croshaw, b. abt 1735-d. abt 1798, married to Elizabeth Valentine. He was a Capt. in VA.
A web search turned up the information that he commanded the New Kent and Charles City Counties, VA Militia
During the Revolution. Joseph Valentine was his father-in-law. I also ran across a genealogy on him, going back to the very early days of the settling of Virginia.
