Tryon & Rutherford NC James & Bethleham

The Wyatt's of Tryon Co NC became the Wyatt
families of Lincoln and Rutherford counties NC by the end of the 1780's most of the Wyatt's have moved across the state line into
SC and other counties in southern NC.

Some years ago I was researching John Wyatt
of Cumberland County TN who had come from Buncombe county - testimony of his daughter
Mrs Zilpha Wyatt Flynn - written by her son
gave John's birth as 29March 1772 Buncombe
County NC-well if this is not an error by
Zilpha or her son then Buncombe county
did not exsist when John was born - it was
Rutherford county but prior to this when
John was born it would have been Tryon Co
-was the place an error? were they unaware
of the county name changes - I dont know.
I think the place but be taken with a large
dose of doubt - but would be nice-and important if true.

We also know from Zilpha John's father was
James Wyatt. Another source claims James
served 7 years in the revoltionairy war.
There was such a James Wyatt part of the 10th
NC regiment then transferred - there may be other James that fit.

A big if -but if James and his son John were
from Tryon then Rutherford counties. Who might be thier parents. Well the area seems populated by some NW carolina cousins but
also by James and his wife Bethleham.
Also James Sr's brother William. Its believed
James and Bethleham had a son James Jr
who might be the same James who is John of
Cumberland County's father. Many years ago
another researcher helped me identify that
James and Bethleham of Tryon and Rutherford
County NC were James and Bethleham from
Northlumberland County VA.

James was one of 3 brothers James,William and John who left VA and came to NC. John eventually returned to VA going to Glouchester Co VA - where the famous VA Wyatt line resided and which was said to be the
source for the Northumberland County Wyatt's. Which if all these links could be proven would make John Wyatt of Cumberland
County a highly likely descendent of the famous VA Wyatt line from VA.

I see little use in persuing further back
without proving the links I have presented which are part spectulation from a small
number of questionable records.

suggestions
Find out more about the Wyatt's who moved
to SC just over the state line.

Find out more about the William and 2nd John
Wyatt of Buncombe County.

Find out more about the nc revolutionairy
records for James Wyatt and other Wyatt's.

Find out if any other wyatt's who cross the
path of John or his sons that might be related in some way - uncle-cousin etc.
There are a few.

Here's one thats little known. Two of John's
sons that went with him to TN went to Chariton Co MO in the 1830's later in the
1850's to be joined by a 3rd son Wm K Wyatt
now all in Linn Co MO [Wm K - SAmpson b1808
and Hiram b1810]. But back in 1819 Chariton
Co MO a James and William Wyatt got land for
military service [warrent-script act]
these are not John's James or William - are they related??? perhaps John's sons went to where they knew cousins were?

Good Luck Steve
