MICHEAL DODD sr.
Micheal Dodd jr. father was Micheal Dodd sr born in Walker County Georgia in 1793.
He is in Madison Co. Ill. in 1814 according to the " History of Madison Co. Ill."
by Brinks. as follows: MICHEAL DODD entered 317 acres of land in section 5 on Sept.13 1814,
and Nat, a black man, 17 years old, brought into the territory by Micheal Dodd, and by him
registered to serve 35 years from May 31 1816 to Sept. 13 1851.
The land entered by Micheal Dodd was near Edwardsville, Ill., which is near St. Louis Mo.
on the opposite side of the Mississippi River. Next we find him in Waynes Co. Mo. Edwardsville
is a little over 100 miles from Wayne Co. and apparently when he left Ill. he went to
Wayne Co. Mo. In the census records 1830 Wayne Co Mo. he is listed as follows.
Micheal Dodd., Males up to 5 ( 2 ). 5 to 10. ( 1 ) 15 to 20. ( 2 ) 30 to 40 ( 2 ) 40 to 50 ( 1) :
Females: 5 to 10 ( 2 ) 10 to 15 ( 1 ) 40 to 50 ( 1 ). The numbers listed first represents age,
and in parenthesis is the number of people in that age bracket. MICHEAL DODD.is believed to
have been married at least 3 times. One wife was named Anna_
In the 1830 Wayne Co. Mo. census, records show living in his household at that time 12 people.
So far to date only three sons of that time have been located. These three sons moved to
Arkansas with their father, MICHEAL DODD. These children are as follows: ( census records ).
Jessie Dodd, born 1806 in Wayne Co. Mo. married in Wayne Co. to _____ ?. in 1830.
Evidently she was dead by 1850 census records as she was not on the census rolls in 1850
Saline Co. Ark. In the 1830 census records:
Males 20 to 30 ( 1 ).Females up to 5 ( 1 ). 20 to 30 ( ! ). Two children born in Missouri,
and one in Arkansas. ( a ) Elizabeth, born in Mo. ( b ) Catherine, born in Mo.,
( c ) Nancy born in Saline Co. Arkansas.
1844 they are known to have lived around Owensville, Arkansas. Saline County , Ark.
marriage records show Jessie Dodd and Jane Husk married 1845, Book A, page 83.
Place and date denotes this to be our Jessie, son of Micheal Dodd sr. ( 2 ) son was William Dodd,
born 1808 in Wayne Co. missouri. Married 1833 to Ruth____? either in Ill. or Mo.Their children:
( a ) Micheal W. Dodd., born 1836 in Mo. ( b ) Sarah A. Dodd, born 1841 in Mo.
( c ) Ruth Caroline Dodd, born 1846 in Mo. ( d ) William L. Dodd, born 1854 in Mo.
( e ) Emily Dodd, born 1856 in Arkansas. ( 3 ) son Elijah Dodd, born 1829 in Mo.
married first to Lotta____? born 1830 in Arkansas. She could be the wife mentioned in the
Elijah Dodd bible, now in possession of Mrs Betty Gean Dodd Burks.
She was listed in the bible as Charolitty Temple Dodd, and was called Lotta or Lotty for short.
She was born 27 Dec. 1830. Elijah Dodd married a 2nd time to Mary Catherine White, or Hefley,
born 6 Feb. 1831. Died 18 March 1908. or 1917. ( Two dates in Saline Co. Ark. ) .
Her parents were born in Tenn. Their children were: ( a ) James ( Jimmie ) Mikal ( Micheal )Dodd.
born 4 oct 1851. Died 1917. ( b ) Nancy Elizabeth Dodd, born 1 Jan. 1852. ( c )
Isadora Dodd, born ___ Died __ at age 17 years. ( d ) John Henry Dodd, born 24 Sept. 1854.
( e) Drew Allen Dodd, born 1857 in Saline Co. Ark.
( f ) Charollote Temple Dodd, born 1 Feb. 1862.
( g ) Issac Monroe Dodd, born 15 April 1865 Saline Co. Ark.
( h ) Anny Mary Mately Dodd, born 18 Dec. 1870 Saline Co. Ark.
( i ) Sarah Emily Dodd, born 3 Feb. 1874, died 15 Oct. 1938, Saline Co. Ark.
Micheal Dodd sr. married again in Mo. wife's name not known.
He married again in Saline Co. Ark. the marriage record, 30 Dec. 1839 to
Sally ( Sarah ) Price, a widow. Sarah's first husband's name unknown.
She was born in N. C. in 1793.
( NOTE, THE 1880 YELL CO. CENSUS STATES THAT MICHEAL DODD'S MOTHER ,
SARAH PRICE WAS BORN IN S.C. ) . She had a daughter Mary, called ( Polly ) Price,
born in Mo. Polly married John English, brother to Nancy English, 1st wife of Dr. Micheal Dodd.
She died 17 Sept. 1917 and is buried in the Salem Cemetery in Yell Co. Ark.
One date gives her as being born 15 Jan 1836 . Polly was listed only as Mary in the Micheal Dodd
census records, which has caused some confusion to researchers.
She was known as Polly Dodd and Micheal Dodd sr. may have addopted her.
( This is not proven. ). John S. English was born 29 Aug. 1834, he died 29 April 1898.
He is also buried in the Salem Cemetery in Yell Co. Ark. Micheal Dodd sr. and wife
Sally ( Sarah ) had one son, Micheal Dodd jr.
