The information I have on John Wesley Carter is that he was born about 1801, the 2nd son of Caleb Carter, born c1755-60, died after 1840 in Monroe Co., Tennessee, and wife, Phoebe Williams, whom he married on 17 March 1798 in Greene Co., Tennessee, Joseph Carter, Surety. In the 1850 Monroe Co., Tennessee, Census, Phoebe was living with their eldest son, Lewis Carter, born 1799, who married Elizabeth Parker on 6 January 1820 in Greene County, Joseph Carter, Surety, married by William Jones, JP. This may be Caleb and Phoebe's 2nd marriages. Phoebe was age 90, born in Maryland, in that 1850 Census, and her son, Lewis, was age 51.
Caleb Carter, with Levi Carter and Joseph Carter, were in Capt. Zackquill Morgan's Company on the Monongahala Frontier
and were mustered on 5 October 1775 and received 12.20 for serving 162 days. Their Lt. was James Chew, and the Paymaster was Evan Williams. In 1780, Caleb, Levi, and Joseph Carter, were in the Washington Co., North Carolina(now Tennessee) Tax Lists. Greene County was formed from Washington Co. in 1783. Tennessee became a State in 1797.
