Hello, I'm looking for information on a FERGUSON family which was living in Pictou, Nova Scotia .. in the late 1800's.
In 1874, Colin FERGUSON took in a "Home Child," who was "Robbie" CORKILL, Age 3 .. "Robbie" was the youngest of 5 CORKILL siblings who had arrived in Halifax, NS, from Liverpool, England. (Parents: Evan and Elizabeth (?) CORKILL; Evan born on the Isle of Man in 1827.)
In the 1881 Canadian Census, Colin is listed in Pictou, Pictou County, Nova Scotia .. as Age 57, a Widower, a Farmer, originally from Scotland.
In the household were:
Peter FERGUSON, Age 16, in School
Lerie FERGUSON, Age 26, Female
Christy McCAY, Age 45, Dressmaker, Scottish
Robert CORKHILL, Age 10, in School
(Somehow Robert's surname has changed from CORKILL to CORKHILL. .. This name has many spellings.)
My interest is in the "Home Child," Robert CORKHILL. He was the kid brother of my great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth CORKILL .. who arrived in Halifax, NS, in 1875 at Age 14.
I have found out about the marriages of the two sisters, Julia and Esther, and of their other younger brother, John CORKILL, who became a Farmer in French River, NS, and didn't marry until Age 38.
I would like to find out if Robert CORKHILL lived to adulthood.
