Methodist Protestant ministers - mid 1800's

Levi H. Garrison was born about 1829 in either North or South Carolina and died sometime between 1862 and 1870 in Mississippi. He was married to Emily (or Amelia) Louise Clearman and they were on the 1860 Madison Co., MS, census (but she was from Newton Co., MS). They had two sons: Elisha Lott Garrison, born March 29, 1859, MS, died July 6, 1953, Newton Co., MS and Philip Napier Garrison, born October 2, 1862, MS, died June 26, 1954, Stanislaus Co., CA.
Levi H. Garrison was listed as a "Methodist Protestant Minister." His son Elisha Lott was named after Elisha Lott who died in Madison County in 1860 and who left a legacy to Elisha Lott Garrison in his will. Several others named in Elisha Lott's will were Methodist Protestest ministers or their sons (usually named Elisha Lott ______). Philip H. Napier, named in the above will, I found on the 1850 Jasper Co., MS, census and he, too, was a Methodist Protestant minister. Does anyone know anything helpful (or just interesting?) about this group of Mississippi preachers? Thank you.
