Help with "word" Kuny on headstone, Denton Co, TX
My ancestors headstone lyes flat in the Goodhope Cemetery, Denton Co, TX.
TALITHA C. D. [Clasped hands at the top]
wife of
JOHN YATES
BORN 1820
DIED 1872
Now next to that one is an upright headstone, different style. Looks like the base was repaired.
TALLITHA[sic] KUNY A R YATES [large flower at the top]
AGED 52 YEARS
You can view both of these headstones on Find a Grave site. I visited the cemetery a number of years ago and there are a couple of errors in the transcription from the vertical headstone, but there wasn't any of that black stuff covering part of the headston when I was there, so it was easier for me.
I have traced the line back some on John Yates, but am stuck on Talitha. Her maiden name is Talitha Graves, according to census records she was born NC. She and John Yates were probably married in MO or AR. John's family was in MO on the 1830 census and by 1840 John and Talitha are on the Searcy Co, AR census.
Can anyone tell me what the KUNY A R stands for on the one headstone? She may have had Native American blood, does Kuny have anything to do with being Indian?
In the Bible -- Mark 5:41 is Talitha Cumi, and means arise fair maiden.
Any ideas of where I can find headstone information for old headstones????
Happy Hunting (^_^)
