Old Mt. Zion Cemetery-Sumter Co, GA - SUGGS

Am seeking to find evidence of rev war service for James SUGGS, b: 1764, NC, d: 1851, Sumter Co, GA. He married Elizabeth Best d/o Henry Best. He apparently served in NC Militia but I can't find evidence of that. Found a pic of a headstone put down on his grave by the Veteran's Administration in the Old Mt. Zion Cemetery in Sumter Co, GA. I'm wondering if there is a way to get copies of whatever proofs they used to determine his service?

I'm trying to help a friend with her DAR application and she is descended from this man.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

You may email me directly at if you prefer.

Thank you,
