Cemetery Database standards
I'm getting ready to start converting a bunch of manually-created gravestone web pages to a PHP/MySQL database format so that it is easier to create and maintain. While we have only about 100 stones today, by the time we get all of the cemeteries in the town done, we will have many, many more.
I don't want to re-invent the wheel, but don't see any standards on information included, format, etc. and don't see any consistency in software used by the various cemetery organizations found on the web. (And Genealogy.com's virtual cemetary isn't an option because it would take us years to input all the data one stone at a time.)
Is there a group I haven't found yet who are working on such standards? Is there an emerging 'standard' software package?
... or do I just start defining my own database and code to spin it off on the web?
Our current, manual, set of pages is at http://hartlandhistory.netfirms.com/hartlandcems.htmlhttp://hartlandhistory.netfirms.com/hartlandcems.html .
Thanks for your help!
