Hi Jerry,
I just discovered an obit for who I believe is my Great-grandfather. He died in the town of New Lots in Brooklyn, New York - 1890.His obit goes on to say he was a member of Ceres Lodge No. 225, I.O.O.F., and
Continental Lodge No. 85, Knights of Pythias.
I had no idea that I.O.O.F. meant International Order of Foresters until you mentioned it.
Anyway, he was buried in an ordinary popular non-secterian cemetery in Brooklyn.
The article adds: A delegation from each of the two lodges
will escort the remains to the grave.
Unfortunately, there's no mention of relatives so I can't verify it's by the article alone and I hope after doing a cemetery inqiry I learn that he is related to me.
I have been also searching for many years for my father, John Smith's grave site. I'm hoping this William H. will lead me somehow to my father.
Just what is the International Order of Foresters? Is this a veteran's organization?
Dieing to know. I also need any bit of information I can gather.
Thanks, Theodora
