My son once dated a girl whose parents sold headstones not graves or funeral services, just headstones and markers, so, I asked a lot of questions. They had any kind of stone, prices vary ACCORDING to the color, type, and the place stone came from, good to ask questions. They even placed stones in "lay-away" or easy payment plan, Visa, etc.THEY contact the cemetery, get the rules and regulations of THAT cemetery.Cemeteries that sell stones will charge a fee for someone to come in and place a stone. (you will pay this fee regardless who places the stone.)The important thing to remember is that some cemeteries (especially in big cities) will require a concrete base 12", 15" maybe 24" deepin soil, to keep the stone from sinking. You want a good base to prevent the stone from cracking or sinking. This is a problem when the family decides to place the stone themselves and they do not lay a strong base. Plus these stones are extremely heavy.
This place had computer machines to attach to headstones and whatever you want to print on the stone, they type it into the computer and the machine cuts it into the stone, regardless of age. They had several trucks and would travel across several states installing head/foot stones or could go out and ADD MESSAGES, dates, etc. to any tombstone.
Check out several places before buying.Good luck,Jeannine
