Roman dates to English..HELP
Hello,
I was doing some in depth research on my grandmothers Fowler family line
and after ordering a report on the pedigrees contained in the files of American Pedigree
company, I find that I could not seem to find a source for the death or family line of Joan Grey who married Guy Bretton. BUT……… after looking at pg. 22 of the report I find a Tomb inscription from the Thame Church in Oxfordshire England, by Richard Lee in 1574, included in Lee's Book: " The Gatherings of Oxfordshire", that states:
""Thomas quatermayn of North Weston & Kathrin his wife, daughtr of Guy de breton & Jone his wife, daughtr & heire of Thomas Graye, sonne of Robert Lord Graye of Rotherfeld, Knight ob. Vj of June MCCCXLII & Thomas sone of the said Quatermayn & Jone his wyffe qui ob Vj of Maye MCCCXCVI.""
Also on this pg. I found:
XII: Quarterly 1 and 4: Grey of Rotherfield, 2 and 3: Bretton
XIII: Quatremayne impaling, Bretton, quartering per fess Grey.
XIV:Quarterly: 1. Quatremayne. II. Quarterly 1 and 4: Grey 2 and 3: Bretton. III: Bretton.
IV: Grey of Rotherfield. [these arms over the head of the woman]
XV: Quatermayn, impaling, arg. on a bend between six fleurs-de-lys gu. a quatrefoil. [Fitz-Ellys]
My question is this:
Can anyone help translate the Roman date to our English date? Can this record be used as a source?
I have had no luck in find other source that confirms or denies this grave stone. If one can accept this toomb stone then the Fowler family of New England can truly claim Royal lines on more then one line. I could use some help if any care to give it.
Cheers,
LW
