The book by Alta Cecil Koch details the Cecil family that was in Maryland from at least the late 1600's. But she follows the branch of that family that moved to the Davidson Co. NC area in and around 1800. She uses as her reference for the early Cecils of Maryland, the book "The Cecil Family of Maryland, with some Allied Ball Lines" by Walter V. Ball. I believe either of these books could be helpful. I do not have the book by Mr Ball.
