Cecil/Cissel DNA research is on the www.familytreedna
website, and will possible prove invaluable for all of us in the future. Several of my male cousins have contributed to this since I am, alas, unable to help in the Cecil line!

Have you ever seen Elise Jourdan's book "Greenup, Witten, Cecil" ??? She gives some excellent and very thorough research on both Witten and Cecils.

The John Cecil of ST Marys, sometimes called John Baptist Cissel, (16?-1698) had 7 known children, all Catholics and well accounted for in St. Mary's County. His son John died about 1722, and left property such as White Acre and Dry Docking in St. Mary's County. Son William married Catherine Joiner, and died c. 1680. All of these people are accounted for, and none of the St. Mary's men that we know about married the very Protestant Elizabeth Sollers of Prince George's County.

I would be happy to send you more of my documentation. My email is pence234@nctv.com. I'm always happy to share and try to clarify things!
