James (and Thomas?) Cecil of Carroll Co., AR (1840) and Lowrie connections?

I am trying to sort out some connections between the Cecil and Lowrie families and would appreciate assistance in learning more about the various Cecil families listed in the 1840 census for Carroll Co., AR. On the same page of the census, I note entries for Solomon (b: 1790-1800), Joseph (b: 1800-1810), Solomon Jr. (b: 1810-1820) and James (b: 1780-1790).

First, can anyone tell me exactly how these families are connected to each other and to the family of William Cecil, who ended up in Polk Co., AR? I'm assuming that Solomon, Joseph, James and William are all brothers; is that correct? (And, if so, does anyone know where William Cecil is located in the 1840 census?)

Second, I am especially interested in the family of James Cecil. The 1840 census lists him with 2 sons (b: 1825-1830), 1 daughter (b: 1825-1830) and 1 daughter (b: 1830-1835). His wife had apparently died before 1840. Does anyone know what the names of his wife and children were? Is it possible that he had a son Thomas (b: abt 1826, TN)?

The reason I ask is that two daughters of my GGGGGrandparents, Robert George & Elizabeth (Hamilton?) Lowrie married Cecil men. Their second eldest daughter Martha Jane Lowrie (b: abt 1830, TN) married Tinvil Cecil (B: 17 Jan 1827, TN), son of William and Rebecca Cecil. Tinvil and Martha Jane (Lowrie) Cecil named their second daughter after their two mothers, Elizabeth Rebecca, and their eldest son after their two fathers, William Robert.

Robert George & Elizabeth Lowrie's eldest daughter Nancy (b: abt 1828, TN) also married a Cecil man: Thomas Cecil (b: abt 1826, TN). The family is enumerated in the 1860 census for Trinity Co., TX (and in the 1851 tax list for the same county). They had three children: Mary Elizabeth (b: abt 1847, AR), James Robert (b: abt 1849, AR), and William Alexander (b: abt 1851, TX). Both Thomas and Nancy (Lowrie) Cecil had died by the early 1870s, if not before.

Ordinarily I would have suspected that the two Lowrie sisters married two Cecil brothers, but there doesn't appear to be any room in William & Rebecca Cecil's well-documented family for a son named Thomas. This leaves me wondering if the Lowrie sisters might not have married first cousins from various branches of the AR Cecils.

Given the naming pattern of Tinvil and Martha Jane (Lowrie) Cecil's children--and assuming a similar pattern for Thomas and Nancy (Lowrie) Cecil's children--I suspect that Thomas Cecil (b: 1826, TN) may be the son of a James and Mary Cecil and the brother of a William Cecil.

What leads me to think this? Thomas and Nancy (Lowrie) Cecil's eldest two children both have Nancy's parents names as part of their names--the Elizabeth of Mary Elizabeth and the Robert of James Robert--so I suspect that their first names are those of Thomas Cecil's parents. Thomas and Nancy's remaining son bears the name William Alexander, the Alexander coming from Nancy's brother George Alexander, who was known as "Alec" all his life. As a result, it seems possible that their son's first name, William, may come from Thomas's brother.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to shed some light on my speculations, or who can provide any further information on the parents or children of Thomas Cecil of Carroll Co., AR.

Thanks,
Chad
