Would like to exchange information on James Ervin Cearley, born 1829 in North or South Carolina, moved to Georgia in about 1834. Information says he was raised in Atlanta Georgia by his mother's people (maybe grandparents) after his father died in about 1836. It has been said his mother remarried, but have no record of this. Have information that says his parents were Leander Cearley and Ruth (?), but have no proof. The name BARNES has showed up in a lot of my research....is there a connection? James married Nancy W. Baldwin 1850 in Cobb County, Georgia. They had 2 children there by 1852 and were in Austin, Travis County, Texas by 1853 where they had 11 more children. Nancy died and James married Sarah POLK, 44 years younger than he and had 6 more children. The last born in 1910 and was still living in 1994. (have lost contact with him. His wife died and believe he went to live with one of his 4 sons) Nancy Baldwin is said to have been related to the owners of Baldwin Locomotive Iron Works in Georgia which was owned by Sylvantis Baldwin. Nancy and James named one of their sons Marion Sylvantis Cearley. Sarah POLK is said to have been related to President James K. Polk, however Polk had no children so have not found a connection. Will share. Betty........in Texas
