Hi Elizabeth........If Leander really was the father of James Ervin, and I have been told that he was, then he probably would have been in North Carolina. Information I have says James Ervin was born 1829 in North Carolina. When James Ervin was 5 years old the family moved to Georgia. When James was 7 years old his father died and family believes his mother, whose name MAY have been Ruth, remarried. It has been stated James was raised by family in, MAYBE, Atlanta, Georgia. The name Barnes keeps popping up and it is believed somewhere they are connected to James.....maybe grandparents, aunts, or uncles. We know James and Nancy received word from people named Barnes in Texas encouraging them to come for the "good land". James and Nancy came and bought 320 acres on the banks of Walnut Creek in Travis County (now in the city of Austin)Texas and raised 13 children.

James married Nancy Baldwin. They are on the 1850 Cobb County, Georgia census shown as James Kearley and Nancy.

Hope this connects!

Betty
