The Bartholomew you refer to should be read to have been born in MA to Capt. Henry Kerley in 1661 - probably in or near Lancaster, MA.That being the case, to have had a child in 1717, his wife would have been over the age of 55.Now that is perhaps possible, but is it probable?I believe that the William who married Martha Patty was in reality the son of William who was married to Mary Bowden in Boston, 1703, by Cotton Mather and that he was the son of William who's property in Lancaster was sold in 1705 by a Henry Kerley/Carley.This makes a whole line of Kerleys who previously have not been recognized. The original Kerly line was started in America by a William and his son Henry who were officers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and came from England in the 1630s. Further - Johnathan, a recognized DAR vet of the REV War, and a grandson of William and Mary, also had a daughter Martha Patty Carley. I believe Johnathan to be the grandson of William and Mary, the son of John and Sarah Sherwood Carley, a line totally unrecognized by any previous researcher. It is time to restart the research on the beginnings of this family.
