Hi,Since I last posted a message about Pleasant I have learned a lot more.David Cawthon and wife Jane Gates were the biological parents of Pleasant as well as several others, but Martin Bird was probably adopted as the family tradition is that his father Red Bird was shot in the back with an arrow while going into a teepee. At the time Red Bird was working for the Cawthon's and took Martin Bird to play with William. My grandmother told me Martin Bird's father was Red Bird who was a Cherokee Chief. My second cousins confirm this is right as their grandfather told them the story of the death.Martin Bird named his son after the lawyer, Dabney Euell, that wrote the will for Jane Gates after David died.Their is no doubt that our line of Cawthon's are part Native American. I hope this may help you.I also know that Dabney Euell and family left Edmonton, Kentucky in 1882 before his daughter Alice was born in Mo.He took his wife and 11 children with him.
