William Cothern 1805 Georgia & 1815 Miss
Hello to all
I'm looking for more info on on my William Cothern. He married Nancy Gates from Georgia before 1810 and settled in Pike Co. Miss. around 1815. He shows up in the Pike co. Miss. census as William Cothen and lived next door to William Gates Sr and William Gates Jr. It is told that his father died when he was around 13.
Nothing else seems to be know about his earlier life, so I've been doing a lot of "fishing" on any "Cothern, Cawthon, Cothorn, and all the related spellings.
I've consentrated in counties in Georgia that hhad both Cotherns (and all related spellings) and Gates families.
I find both a William Gates Sr and Jr. in Franklin Co. Ge. around 1802 to 1806. I also find a William Cothen Sr and Jr in Franklin Co. But both Williams were somewhat prominate and there is enought written on them to exclude them from my list. But other of the Cothen family might have had another son named William.
I also find a Land Lottery registration for a Mary Cawthorn, (listed as a widow) and a william Cawthorn, both in the 1805 Georgia land lottery. Their registration #s were sequential, #s 1211 & 1212. I'm hoping this may be my William and his mother. (assuming the story about his father dieing at an early age was true)
Has anyone checked out these families??? does anyone have any hints or clues to help me find more info on my Cothern line?????
