TYLER’S QUARTERLY, Vol. 19, #2, October 1937

p.110/111 **** Will of William Allen of Elizabeth City County, 1731 - wife Elinor, negro woman Sue; ½ lot of land in Hampton to two sons, John and Anthony; rest of estate equally divided between all children - Anthony Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas and Anne Allen - all not of age; dau. Mary Henry; dau. Anne Allen; dau. Jane Allen - not of age. William, Henry and wife co-executors.

I am posting this to prove that in 1731 when this will was written Jane Allen who is suppose to have married Henry Cabanis in 1725 was still underage. Not until this will was probated was she known as Jane now Cabanis .this does add up if you feel that she was the mother of children beginning in 1738 ,This poses a problem however with the age of Henry as he would have in all probability much younger than previously thought. The only reason for placing him as born in 1699 is if it is sure that he was the infant on the ship in 1700 and this seems to be the entire basis for all attributions of Henrys age as being born in 1698 .also in 1704 there is no mention of an infant, only Henry caberness and wife are found on the list of huguonauts ,that leads me to believe that who ever this child was,on arrival they were deceased ,by 1710.I think Henry born about 1710 and married by 1736 to Jane Allen then it fits that the children starting with Henry born in 1738 and all the remainder down to Richard and Fredrich were the children of Jane Allen and not some hypothetical second wife.I have found records for a Jane Cabanis seperate from Henry ,and it is very possible that she was married at least for a short while to either Matthew or george. While we know the wives names for both of Henrys brothers ,we can not be sure that they only had the one marriage. There is much to be done with this research
