I am skipping William,John and Joab because they quite frankly don't belong in this family.going to page 105 starting with "Benjamin Sanders,Caviness son of Sarah Carr and William Caviness (Carr can't be correct ) born in Mecklenburg co Va on 25 Oct 1788 died in Randolph Co NC on 15 Oct 1869 he was buried in Raines cemetery (MY THOUGHTS wonder if it is Rains cemetary many of the family married into the Rains family )
the date of his marriage to Delialah the mother of his known children is not known they were married before 1810.Sh was born in 1783,probably the daughter of a quaker family named Allred, she died in Randolph Co NC.in 1831 Benjamin married second Nancy Brady ,Who was born on 2 march 1782 MY THOUGHTS wonder if she was related to the Brady that Lacretia daughter of Richard married ???) They were married on 26 March 1833 There were no children .On 18 July 1849 Benjamin Sanders married a third time to Hannah Macon born 1808 and died Jan 1st 1873.She is buried beside Benjamin ,while Delilah and Nancy lie next to each other in Raines Cemetary which is lost in the woods and can be found only with a guide from the nearby community of coleridge NC.Benjamin must have been resonably affluent, and was appointe a member of the loclal militia ,so he was "col.Benjamin " all his days.
The census records present matters f confusion in his family which do not resolve themselves with any single set of explanation. So little is known about Delialah that we cannoth determine whether the children that appear in 1810 censu are her by a former marriage ,nor what her family name was.
MY THOUGHTS: the author then attempts to explain these children away by saying "The easiedt solution for these small children that is to assume that they were the sons of John deceased,,the elder brother of Benjamin S Since the 1820 census is lost all possible successive accounting of them is gone MY THOUGHTS ( Benjamin had no older brothers not named John ,the author is confusing Richards John with this family Richards John also was not deceased but moved to Indiana).BY1830 .there are two you people in Bens family who are never listed as his descendants stragely men of the the same age span who later lived in arkansas have children named Benjamin .From all circumstantial evidence Benjamin was the the sort of man whom a child would have been named after.Yet there is no way to identify the parentage of the extra young people who grew up in Benjamins family
Hannah the third wife of Benjamin was a person of more thancommon knowledge and was kind enough to leave a will naming his childen and settling matters of descent in exact order.

on page 378 it lists data that to me is clearer ,but mentions only part of the folks on this document I Hanna Caviness widow of the late Benjamin S Caviness deceased of the county of Randolph and the state o fNC being of sound mind and memory buyt condidering the uncerainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form followin that is to say first after my executor herinafter named shall provide my biody a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relatives and friends, and to procure tombstones for my own and my husbands grave ,to be of good material and with suitable inscriptions thereon each tombstone not to cost less than one hundred dollars and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts however and to whomsoever owing as part and parcel of my estate item 1 I give and devise to the children of Benjamin s Caviness by his first wife vis :Braxton M Caviness and Isaac F Caviness Sr.one fourth of all my estate to share and share alike Item 2 : I give and devise to the children of Alfred Caviness viz.Isaac F Caviness amd Wm J Caviness, A W Caviness ,and Delilah ann Parks wife of Thomas Parks one fourth part of my entre estate .Item 3 I give and devise to the
Children of J R Caviness Viz: Alfred H Caviness Eliza ,and Mary ,John, and Robert E Caviness one fourth part of my estate.Item 4:I give and devise to the children of Stephen M Carter and Mary M Carter his wife daughter of Benjamin S Caviness deceased Viz:James S Carter ,Eliza CARter ,George CARter ,Wm Carter.Stephen Carter, Mary Carter and carter infant name not yet known and the children of A E Caviness Viz:John A Caviness,Benjamin S
Caviness,Henry Caviness,Elizabeht Caviness, and Wesley Caviness by his first wife. This is the list of those inheriting and there is a bit more legal mumbo jumbo this is the crux of the will.
My THOUGHTS it is possible that the list of descendants comes only from this list ,if that is so it is equally possible that the children who are reported as being on the census with Benjamin, but were not mentioned as descendants had already died,or been left out of the will for what ever reason.I do know that Benjamin S Caviness did not have an older brother period ,He had none named John .the author is again confusing Richards John with this family ,additionally Richards son John was not dead he and his family had migrated to Indiana.
Many of the Caviness families migrated away in the mid 1830's many went to Lamar Co Tx and many to Indiana, especially Morgan Co.Indiana
