I know little more now than before. You do realize that Elizabeth Mann is the daughter of Isham Mann,I think you had that. The one thing I have figured out is that Richard Caviness, his wife and children are all shown with him on the 1800 census for Chatham Co NC.what threw me for years is going on the assumption that my William (oldest son of Richard) was born in 1781,This is the birthdate given in the Caviness book.I had believed that this date was known to the author having being passed down by word of mouth.I had believed that it was finding a William with this birthday on the tithe list for Mecklenburg Co Va ,that caused Alloa to attribute the tithe record to my William who tradition said was the son of Richard .The author for what ever reason placed this tithe record and the age of the man being tithed toWilliam son of Matthew or( Matthew 1740>William 1765> william 1781.It dawned on me in a late night epiphany. it was not her finding a William that was the correct age born in 1781 forWilliam Caviness, and proclaiming it a record for myWilliam .Instead what she did was attribute the found Williams birthday to My William making him born in 1781.I could never find out how that record could be wrong and not belong to my William since the birthdate of 1781 seemed correct.I realized that my William was not necessarily born in 1781.I realized why I could not find my William in Chatham Co.NCHe was not the age given as 1781 I found him He was where he should have been in 1800.As he had yet to meet or marry Mary Vestal a Chatham Co NC girl. When I realized what the author did was give my william an age based on the tithe list ,rather than say aha this is the tithe list for William because it matches his birthday .Then if they were simply basing his age on a tithe list for some other William perhapshe could be older or younger than this 1781. Revisiting the Chatham Co Census in N C for Richard for 1800 I finally found my William he was there where he had been all along in Richards household with siblings Mary (Polly)John ,Joab,Lacretia ,and their mother.
