Benjamin Cavinist found on the records for Sarah Cavinist born novem 17th 1788 is clearly the oldest son of Sarah who died in 1803.He is in fact the only son of Sarah and her husband who was probably William ,who was probably the oldest son of Matthew.This William died in 1795 .He was born in 1765 .He would have married from about circa 1786 to early 1788.He would have married a local girl from the area of Mecklenburg Co Va or across the NC line in Granville Co NC.She would have in all probability lived very close to Matthew in order to have met and married his son William.She would not have been from the area of Randolph Co NC.Where the Carrs lived (the name of the family who have long been, wrongly named as her parents and the parents of Fredricks wife Elizabeth).She,Sarah ,her children and Fredricks wife Elizabeth,and all of the Caviness found in the area of Randolph Co NC did not migrate to that area until 1799 . She had four children when she arrived in Randolph Co NC .with her inlaws .She and William, son of Matthew were to young to be the parents of William 1781 or his brother john ,or Joab or the older Mary (Polly),all of whom have at various times all wrongly been placed in this family .William 1781,Mary, (Polly),John,Joab are the children of the older Richard Caviness.Who was born circa 1754 .This is where tradition placed them by facts being passed down through word of mouth over generations.It is also the only remaining family to place them, with.Matthews sons are accounted for by his will Fredricks children are all found on various papers after his death ,besides Fredrick was to young also to have fathered 1781 William,or the others that have been wrongly attributed to this Sarah Caviness who died in 1803.None of Matthews sons were old enough to have children in this age group.There is no one else ,so one goes back to traditionally held genealogy.This makes sense also in light of the migrations to Indiana of two of 1781 Williams sons John and Alfred and cousin Kirby reported to be Richards grandson,son of daughter Mary ,also lacretia who was another daughter of richards ,two of these men Alfred and Kirby both name sons Richard.curious none of these men ever name a child Matthew for many generations.
