Thanks Patricia,
A nephew of Clyde, Dale Caveness, contacted me some time ago with the question he had of" why did his great Uncle Arthur change spelling after he came to the State of Washington in the late 1890's". I think I have related to you of my grandfather's step-brother in Success, MO., saying in 1993 "that you have to remember of where you are and what education you have" when it comes down to the indivdual spelling. Also, I am finding out as I do more research is the education and writing skills of the original person filling out the various forms that we read today
In Henri 2 and Jane Allen there are eight boys and five variations of the Cavinis, Caviness,Cavanes,Cavness and Cavanah. My Matthew and three other brothers. Yet, William,Richard and Fredrick all spelled the same. Yet, none took the spelling of their fathers, Cabanis/Cavinis.
What brother is your lineage.

Once again thanks for the reply. I will let Dale know what you have mentioned. I hope maybe other relatives will notice this query and send me more info.
