Cavin Family Genealogy Forum

I am a descendant from the Cavins of Hawkins County and the Christians. There was no Melungeon connection as far as the Cavins of Hawkins Co. and definitely not in the Christian line. I too am descended from John and Nancy Skelton Christian except through the eldest son William L. Christian. Both the Skelton and Christian lines are very well researched and I have quite a lot of that information. On the Cavin side I am not is such good shape. My knowledge begins with my gg grandparents John and Elizabeth Hundley Cavin. They had two sons, William and Lewis (probably named for the above Christians). Lewis was my great grandfather. He married Susannah Christian, daughter of Isaac L. and Frances Arnold Christian. Isaac was the son of William L. Christian. Isaac's sister, Rachel, was my gg grandmother. She married a Mullins (this may be where the Melungeon connection may have been supposed, but there is none). Their grandson, Smith Powell, married Julia Cavin, the eldest daughter of Lewis and Susannah Cavin. They were my mother's parents. The other children of Lewis and Susannah Cavin were Lucy, William, Louisa, Lillian, and Mary. I have the children of William Cavin in my files and am willing to look them up. I am not aware of any Cavin connections to Hancock Co., but that doesn't mean that there were none. I just don't know about them. The Christian family is a large one and there may have been some connections with Hancock Co. The rather lenghty records at the local library have not yielded information in that area. The entries are difficult to follow and I get very lost in them. The Christian family tended to stay at home and marry cousins. There are 8-9 generations of Christian/Skelton marriages that are maddening to sort out.
