Hi Gary, My gggrandfather was William Robert Cavin. He married Ellen Wilson (we beleive, as we have 3-4 different last names for her), her claim to fame was being 1st cousin to Queen Victoria. William and Ellen had 10 children, James, John, Mary, Samuel, Allen and twin Ambros, my ggrandfather, Mack, Margaret, Alex and William. William's middle name was Jesse ?? The interesting facts we know about out William Robert, is that he was Belgian, NOT Irish, he left Belgium for Ireland and left Ireland under "dubious" circumstances. At that point he dropped the name LAMBART and took the name Cavin from county Caven, his departure point in Ireland. Our William Robert was born April 3, 1818. He first went to Tennesse, then to Arkansas in 1840. In 1866 he went to Nevada, La Moille, near Elko. Then to Roseburg, Oregon, then to Burnt River, 50 miles from Baker, Oregon in 1868. Finally to Pocohantas, which is about 10 miles W. of Baker City, just an area, not a town. He was married in either 1842 or '43 and died near Baker in 1892. William was a Private, in and out of Reg. 1, Ark. Infantry, Union side, company F. His occupation was listed as a farmer, otherwise. There you have it Gary ! I have been working on this line for many years and this is as far as I have been able to go. There is a book of "Irish Emigrants" at the local Mormon church. I found a William Cavin, age 14 traveling with his family. I will try to check this out. It is always possible that it was his father, for whom I have no name, who was the one who changed our name from Lambart !? Please let me know if and how you connect to all of this ?? Has any of it rang any bells?? I hope so, this family is very illusive and it would really be great to find someone else going thru' the same frustrations ! I would like to hear more about your connection to the James'. As I told you, My grandmother was Sarah Younger and therefore, I have always heard rumbles about the James Boys. Do you have any connection to Robert E. Lee ? Unless you do, I won't get into all that at this point. Anxious to hear from you, Betty Wontroek Notify Administrator about this message?
