I am researching Mathew Hayes Cavin decendents in California. Any and all information welcome! Have received the following from a friend in Auberry Calif.
April 29, 1885
Baseball-
A correspondent writes us from Auberry valley that an interesting match game was played there on the 18th between the Toll House and Auberry clubs. The latter won the game, the score standing 21-27. The Auberries feel jubilant over the whole affair, as this is the second time they have beaten the Toll House club. They are now searching for other clubs to conquer. In the evening after the match the young gentlemen composing the clubs, accompanied by a number of young ladies, repaired to the premises of J. W. Cavin and took possession of his barn,cleaned the floor and had a social dance. Abe Yancy says the Toll House boys, after thier defeat, went home and practiced all day Sunday and now feel confident that they can scoop the Auberry's in another contest.
J.W. Cavin was my Great Grandfather and son of Mathew Hayes Cavin.
Their was another Cavin clan in and around Madera and Coarsegold ( I was told that we were not related) I also found a few Cavins in a Syskiyu Co. cemetary.
John Cavin, Lulu Cavin,Isabelle Cavin. And on the same stone Asenath M. Cavin 1882-1967, Alexander E. Cavin 1878-1931. another same stone Fred 1885-1960,Lena Ray 1883-1971
