Does anyone know anything about the descendants of JAMES CAVENDISH (b.bef. 1707 - d. December 14, 1751), son of son of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Devonshire. JAMES m. (1) Mary Butler and (2) Anne Yale. JAMES had two children, (1) Elizabeth who married RICHARD CHANDLER an (2) William (b.bef.1734 - d.ca. July 1751). According to credible sources, RICHARD CHANDLER changed his surname to CAVENDISH so that he could inherit his father-in-law's estate and thereafter used the name CAVENDISH as his own. RICHARD was the son of EDWARD CHANDLER (b.ca.1670 - d. 1750), Bishop of Durham Cathedral ca. 1730-50. This position is said (at the time) to be second only in power to the King/Queen. Recent research seems to indicate that Bishop Chandler's father was SAMUEL CHANDLER. Regardless of whether Samuel is his father's given name, the Bishop's uncle was EDWARD CHANDLER (ca. 1640-d. before 1692), son of SAMUEL CHANDLER (1618-bef. 1692), who was the son of WILLIAM CHANDLER (1577-1638 or later) of Stratford-upon-Avon. While I have not completed my own research, I am eager to connect with anyone who has information about possible descendants of RICHARD CAVENDISH a/k/a CHANDLER and wife ELIZABETH Cavendish/Chandler/Cavendish. I had hoped to make a DNA connection through the CAVENDISH name, but I cannot find a CAVENDISH DNA project on the WWW. If any male descendants of Richard and Elizabeth are now living, their DNA should match some CHANDLER DNA, not the Cavendish DNA because the male Y-chromosome unerringly passed from generation to generation through the male no matter what the surname is (e.g., boys born a Chandler, adopted and their name changed by their adoptive parents, would still have the Chandler DNA for all time). I manage the Chandler DNA Project on <www.ftdna.com> (that's <www.FamilyTreeDNA.com>). Many thanks. Joseph Barron Chandler Jr. joechandler@yahoo.com Notify Administrator about this message?
