According to the book by Alloa Caviness Anderson ,the family I feel seem to use the spelling" Cavaness" are descended from Walker Cavaness,he had several sons, and lots of grandsons , none named Richard that I see, having said this there are a lot of men not known of by the author ,and errors in this book, one son William Walker Cavaness, born in Randolph Co NC on 6/8/1814 he died at Gosport Owen Co Indiana on 2/3/1898 he had 12 children born from 1844-1884 other sons Robert Raines Cavaness, married an Elizabeth ,a walker Wesley Cavaness. who had sons ,and aJames E Cavaness most of this family lived in Morgan,Hendricks and Owen co Indiana. It seems to me according to what I can see only walkers family spelled their name this way some of their descendants did also some did not.I suspect your richard is of one of these families. It is easier to trace your family back rather than forward from Walker.Walker Caviness is the son of Fredrick Caviness whos brother is named richard,Fredrick was born about 1756 his brother Richard about1754Fredrick was a preacher at times he did not as I recall leave NC. his children did if you send me your email I can email you what little I have .The families of Indiana all were connected regardless of the spelling ,in fact I believe that all folks named Caviness, and cavaness ,Caveness, even Cabiness and cabaniss etc all connect back to one man .
