I have a Kate, Peter, Mary, & Henry Cavanaugh (sibs). Henry, born 1826 in Co. Longford, Ireland, died 1899. He married Bridget Mary Sullivan. They had Bridget, Jack, Jim, & Rose. Bridget (my g-grandmother)married Patrick McAleese (g-grandfather).

Henry was sponsored to America by Captain Jacobs; emigrated from Co Longford, Ireland to East Riverside, (Fayette County) Pennsylvania in 1865. Family ledgend has it that his daughter, Bridget, then about 11 yrs old, recalled arriving by boat into New York when a young boy in a canoe paddled along side their ship and shouted, "Mr. Lincoln's been shot!" When she learned who Abraham Lincoln was, she wondered what kind of barbaric country they had just given up their homeland to move to.

Captain Jacobs was a riverboat captain.

Per Ralph S. Dudgeon's search (8/8/86) in LDS files in San Diego: Microfilm roll - 552841 Part 1, date of census - 29 June 1870 (1870 U.S. Census - Fayette County, Luzerne Township, PA, Post Office - Davidsons Ferry)...Page # 34, Dwelling # 332, Family #332, Line #17:Henry Cavenaugh (Note pelling), Line#18
Bridget, Line#19 Bridget, Line #20 John, #21 James, #22 Rose.
