CAVENAUGH, CAVENOUGH vs. CAVENDER
Posted by: J.T. Cavender Date: May 23, 1998 at 07:31:23
  of 1123

I have just uncovered the fact that the two earliest many-times great-grandfathers could neither read or write, and probably could not even spell or even correctly pronounce their surnames for the person drafting the document on their behalf. In both instances, the name was spelled Cavenaugh, Cavenough, Caviner and Cavinder. Has anyone run across an ancestor who spelled his or her name as CAVENDER or CAVENDAR? If so, I would like to share information with you. My Francis Cavenogh (Cavender)married a Johanna Lewis, daughter of Edward and Mary, died in Richmond County, Va. about 1721 leaving a 3-4 year old son named John who later moved to Fairfax County where he died about 1755.
