I have some information for you but the dates don't exactly fit. My paternal great grandfather is William Cavanaugh from MA from around the time period you describe. My father told me that we were related to a family he remembered being called Herlebus but I couldn't find any info on that - probably because I was probably spelling it wrong!
If it is the same William Cavanaugh, he married Mary Leroy and had several children:
Donald
Robert
Philip
Thomas
Arnold b. 1915 d. 1986
Arnold, who settled in E. Templeton MA and married Katherine Frenier. They had 3 children, including my father Neil Cavanaugh who was born 1949. I cannot find any information about William Cavanaugh's b. or d. and my father's memory is thin.
I posted a message about this elsewhere on this site but haven't gotten a response to it.
I'd be curious to know if we're related... :)
