John Cavanagh and William Mooney, who married Kitty Hodgins, came together. John settled on Lot 11, Con. 2., Huntley Township. John felled the first tree in Huntley Township, according to Belden's Atlas and Carleton Saga. In 1838, John deeded 5 chains and 17 links of his land to build a church on the third line, which is Christ Church. It is not known whether he was married before he left Ireland. John and Jane had six children: Dennis, Catherine, Eliza, John, Michael and William. They all married. Dennis went West. John and Jane are both buried in Christ Church Cemetery on the east side of the church, not far from his brother Dennis. John Cavanagh donated an acre of land to the Bishop of Quebec in 1838. This land was used for the building of Christ Church, Huntley Township." (Huntley's Christ Church Heritage, 150 Years of Worship, page 86). Also of note, there were Keyes family also in Huntley Township in the 1800's... I would appreciate hearing from you if you might have anything further on this family line.
