Glenn,
Have gone thru all my Cauthen Family Papers and can't find Your Joesph or William. The only Civil War records I could find was about George Lewis Cauthen and that stated he was in the Confederate Army as shown by South Carolina Troops in The Confederate Service by Salley which Gary may have or in The S.C. State Archives. May Find The Confederate Enrollment Book in The Lancaster County Courthouse.

You may find The S.C. Roster of Civil War Soliders and records at your local library's genealogy departmet.Thats where I found my grand farthers ( M. R. Finley )Civil War Records. He was in The Ist, N.C.Calvary

Another good source is Gary Harris, genealogist at The Lancaster County Library, Lancaster, S.C. He found A.J.Talor
a great grand parent for me. From The Civil War Records he has. A.J. Taylor was in The 2nd. S.C. Infranty and was captured at Knoxville Tenn. in 1864.
Was released under oath but died of a disease he caught in prison and died before he could leave Knoxville, Tenn.

Glenn hope this helps. Iwill keep looking.

Bob Finley, Sr.
