Oliver CAULK, Delaware, b. 1820
Who were these CAULKs, in-laws of the Ellisons?
The C.B. ELLISON family lived in Pencader Hundred, just north of the Delaware-Chesapeake Canal, on the place that used to be the Mount Vernon place, next to Summit Bridge Road, (now) Highway 896, across from Lum's Pond State Park. A good description of this location is in this archaeological report:
deltrac.com/archaeology/cazier/pdf/report.pdf
C.B. ELLISON had eleven children. One was James V, whose wife's CAULK family I asked about here a few minutes ago. James' older brother, Thomas B ELLISON (1835- ) married Jane "Jennie" W CAULK (b. ca 1843), and had children Walter in 1871 and Maggie in 1873.
Jennie's father, Oliver CAULK was born about 1820 in Delaware, and his wife Catherine, about 1818. They appear in Trefeddwyn, Chester County, PA, in 1860, having moved there about 1845. Their two children are Jane, 17 and L---, 15. [Series: M653Roll: 1092Page: 869]. The second child was Launcelot, born ca. 1845.
By 1870, Jennie's parents, Oliver CAULK, 60, and wife Catherine, 62 are back in Delaware, near Glasgow, Pencader Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. They are next-door neighbors of Thomas and Jennie ELLISON and family in 1870 and 1880. [Roll: 120Page: 649; Series: T9 Roll: 120 Page: 269]

Obit from The Cecil Whig, Saturday, February 18, 1888:

Earlier, the John CAULK family had also lived near Glasgow, Pencader Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. In 1830, John CAULK, age 30-40 and (probably) his wife, 30-40, had two young boys --one under 5 (born between 1825-1830) and one 5-10 (born between 1820-1825), another male 20-30, one little girl under 5, and another female 15-20. [Series: M19 Roll: 12 Page: 75]. The other adult male here would have been born 1800-1810 and the other adult woman would have been born 1810-1815.
Was Oliver D CAULK the older of John CAULK's sons, the one age 5-10 in the above census?
Does anyone know what became of John CAULK and family, of near Glasgow, Pencader Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, who had young children in the 1830's?
Thanks very much,
Liz J
